BPMA Research Into The UK Market For Promotional Merchandise

The British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA) was established in 1965 and is one of the UK’s leading bodies within the industry focusing on promoting best practice in the sourcing, manufacturing, distribution and supply of promotional gifts. The BPMA has over 600 members and Redbows was one of the association’s first Charter Distributor.

As a Charter Distributor we have access to the latest BPMA research and can share this with our clients and visitors to our website. Below we list a summary of the key findings taken from the June 2012 survey.

Key Findings

The survey was commissioned by the BPMA and was performed by an independent research agency in April and May 2012 using individual in depth interviews. The principle industry sectors included in the survey included finance, IT, retail, services and insurance, and the charity and educational sectors. 92% of the respondents were aged 25-44 and the survey can be considered representative of the UK market place for promotional merchandise

  • 49% have increased their spend on promotional merchandise since last year
  • 33% expect to increase their spend over the next 12 months
  • 66% purchase promotional merchandise every 1-3 months
  • 70% rely on their current suppliers for information on promotional merchandise
  • 69% use promotional merchandise to target customers effectively in marketing campaigns
  • 35% of all promotional merchandise purchases are pens, followed by paper pads and bags
